Resolutioners in the gym work out classes11/28/2023 I like to go to the weight rack and lift weights at a leisurely pace. I'm not a super high energy person, especially if I'm at the gym and/or my anxiety is up. Solution: Does your gym offer classes? Do any look appealing? Does it come with your membership? You can also always check in at the front desk for classes that are good for beginners. Am I in better shape, even with my half-assed finding of machines, than I was a year ago? Yep.īlock: Don't like going alone, not good at pushing yourself. Is there a more efficient way to get in shape? Surely. I personally do better if the bar of entry is as low as possible, so I didn't find a routine for almost a year, I would just go in, find a free machine that looked like I could maybe figure out how to do it, and do some reps. Don't be shy about walking around the gym with a piece of paper. There's also tons of basic routines to be found online. Even if they don't, I think shelling out for one is worth it if you're the sort of person who takes their lack of knowledge about something and turns it into a huge impenetrable box of the infinity of not knowing and puts it in front of the gym door. Solution: Lots of gyms will offer a free or discounted promo session with a trainer. I hope you don't mind if I just throw some options out there, maybe one will help you or somebody else.īlock: Not knowing how to use the equipment or not having a routine. What would make it easier? I had to get over a lot of anxiety to build up a gym routine, so I tried a lot of things. I just meant to agree that jumping in head first aggressively can be overwhelming, and I'm hoping, for me at least, easing into it will be more tolerable. Tomorrow morning will be the 3 week mark, and I'm confident I'll be back to 234, a third of the way over after only a fourth of the planned timeline. I've dropped from 242 to 235 (was 234 yesterday, but rounding says 235 today) over 20 days. The idea though is to add something small every few weeks maybe and to develop the routine slowly instead of jumping in head first and getting sick of it immediately. After the push ups become routine I'll add pull ups or some simple free weight exercises. I'm planning to slowly add more days of push ups until it becomes more routine like calorie counting now is. My arms are sore, so I'll give it another day or two to recover fully before doing more. This week I scratched the surface of adding some resistance exercise by doing some push ups. Doing that for a couple weeks has shed light on my eating habits, so I'm now paying better attention to my daily calorie intake. So I started using the myfitnesspal app, and I logged everything down to 25 calorie servings of animal crackers. I think we all know most of us aren't honest with ourselves about what and how much we consume daily. I started with something simple: counting calories. This time I've been trying to ease myself into it by making small changes a little bit at a time. I'm back at it trying to lose some weight again though. That's where I think I've failed in the past trying to make an overnight change and expecting it to last.
